About this service

MY BIN.DAY tells you when your council will collect your rubbish, recycling, food and garden waste, wherever you live in the UK.

Why this exists

Finding your bin day on a council website often means digging through several pages and typing in your address every time. Apps that do it for you usually want an account, show adverts or track you, and many quietly stop working when a council changes its website.

MY BIN.DAY does one thing: shows your collection days, without asking for anything it does not need. We test every council's website every week, so we know when one stops working and can fix it.

How it works

  1. You enter your postcode, and we find which council collects your bins.
  2. You choose your address.
  3. We look up your collection days on your council's website, as you would, and show them on one simple page.

We keep what we find for up to a week, so your collection days load quickly next time and we do not ask your council's website more often than we need to.

These are councils that gave us real collection days when we last tested every council's website, on Tuesday 6 October 2026. We test them all regularly, so this is what works now, not just what's listed.

Population figures are ONS mid-year population estimates.

That's most councils in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. See all the councils we cover.

We cannot check some councils' websites automatically, for example because they block automated requests, or only show collection days after you log in. If your council is one of them, we'll tell you and link to its website.

Collection days can change around bank holidays and in bad weather. If you're not sure, check your council's website.

Who runs this service

I'm Ryan O'Callaghan, and MY BIN.DAY is my personal project. It's independent: it's not run by, or connected to, GOV.UK, the government, any council or my employer. It is built with the GOV.UK Design System, which anyone can use.

It's free and has no adverts. If it's useful to you, you can help cover the cost of running it.

Where the information comes from

  • collection days come from councils' websites, using UKBinCollectionData, an open source project
  • which council covers your postcode comes from postcodes.io, which uses open data from the Office for National Statistics, Ordnance Survey and Royal Mail
  • for some councils, address lists come from the Ordnance Survey Places API
